The one event this month that is actually about Sindang. Two of the arcade's resident artists, Sooah Kim and Gieun Lee, spent their residency meeting Sindang shopkeepers and fellow artists, and show the result as portraits: images cut into clay and faces drawn in thread and fibre. It is small and quick to see, and you walk past the market stalls to get there.

The first major Wayne Thiebaud retrospective in Korea, from the American painter best known for cakes, pies and shop-counter still lifes. It is the one big ticketed show at DDP this autumn and runs until late February, so it works for almost any trip date. Painting needs no Korean, which makes it one of the easiest paid picks on this page.

The DDP Design Fair and the Design Week conference are ticketed: the fair is KRW 15,000 on site, with cheaper early-bird tickets on 29CM and Naver until Oct. 13. The exhibitions, pop-ups and design market are free.
Seoul's main design week, run by the Seoul Design Foundation. The paid DDP Design Fair gathers around 80 Korean lifestyle brands in the Art Hall, and the free design market on two weekends is the easy low-cost version for picking up Korean-made homeware and small gifts. The free Seoul Design Conference opens the week at the DDP Design Lab on Oct. 14 and needs advance registration.

Nine artists and designers from the Promenade Art/Design Research Institute, shown free and running well into late October. The longest free run on the DDP calendar right now, so it is the low-pressure option if your dates are still loose.
