Frater is a small special-occasion restaurant in Sindang that I would recommend lightly, not loudly. The food was good, the red wine by the glass was better than expected, and the staff handled a busy-night delay with enough care that it did not ruin the evening.
The harder part is the price. We paid 119,000 won for the signature set and added 14,000 won for the steak and paella main, so the food total came to 133,000 won. That is not an everyday Sindang dinner. It makes sense for a birthday, date night or a quiet celebration, but I would not tell a first-time visitor to spend this much here casually unless they already wanted this kind of meal.
The meal we had
We arrived early in the evening, when the room still felt calm from inside: soft light by the window, a reserved table beside us waiting for its guests, dark chairs, and that feeling you get when a place is trying to be more careful than casual. It was my wife’s birthday, so I was not looking for the cheapest good meal in Sindang. I wanted something that felt a little more deliberate, without needing to cross Seoul.
We chose the two-person signature set. On the menu, the set runs through entree, pasta, main, dessert and wine. For the main, we chose the steak and paella option, which added 14,000 won. For wine, we chose red by the glass.
The table started with small things: cutlery, candlelight, wine glasses, the kind of setup that makes you slow down even when you came with a child. The red wine by the glass was one of the better parts of the meal. I liked it enough to take a photo of the bottle later: Capato Rosso, an Italian Sangiovese listed as the house red.
The food came in the order of pasta, scallop, main and dessert. The pasta arrived first. It was the kind of plate that does not shout: wide pasta, butter base, grated cheese, dill and a restrained richness. For me, this was probably the most comfortable dish of the night because it felt easy to keep eating.
After that came the scallop. It was a small course, more of a pause between pasta and the main than a big standalone plate. I liked the pacing in theory, though this was also where the night’s delay started to become noticeable.
The main was the steak and paella. This was the right choice for us because it felt more like a birthday table than the other main options would have. The restaurant was busy that evening, and some of the dishes came out later than I expected. With a child at the table, delays feel longer than they do on a normal date night. That is the honest caveat.
But the staff noticed it and apologized. That mattered. The delay did not disappear, but the mood stayed fine because nobody acted like we were being unreasonable for waiting. I left thinking the service was imperfect on a busy night, but not careless.

I would not put Frater in the “easy recommendation for anyone visiting Sindang” category. Sindang has cheaper, louder, more casual meals that fit the neighborhood better for most travelers. Frater is for a different need: when you want to stay around Sindang but make the evening feel like a proper dinner.
That is why my recommendation is weak but positive. I liked the meal. I liked the wine. I liked that the staff cared when the timing was slow. I also think the price means you should have a reason to go.
